India Responds Strongly to Pahalgam Terror Attack, Takes Major Diplomatic Actions Against Pakistan
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
In a swift and stern response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, India has taken five significant diplomatic and strategic steps against Pakistan, citing the attackers’ alleged links to Pakistani-based terror groups.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the measures on Wednesday evening, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between the two South Asian neighbors.
Key Measures Taken by India:
- Indus Waters Treaty Suspended
India has suspended implementation of the Indus Water Treaty, a decades-old water-sharing agreement with Pakistan. The move sends a strong signal, as the agreement has long been seen as a symbol of cooperation even during tense bilateral relations. - SAARC Visa Access Denied
Pakistani nationals will no longer be granted SAARC visas, effectively barring them from participating in any events or travel under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation framework. - Atari Border Crossing Closed
The government has announced the complete closure of the Atari-Wagah border crossing, one of the most significant land links between the two nations, halting all passenger and trade movement through the route. - Diplomatic Staff Withdrawal
India will withdraw its diplomatic personnel from the High Commission in Islamabad, reducing diplomatic engagement to a minimum. This step is seen as a major downgrade in bilateral relations. - Visa Cancellations and Deportations
All current SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas issued to Pakistani nationals have been revoked, and individuals have been ordered to leave India within 48 hours.
Background of the Attack
India alleges that on April 22, terrorists with suspected links to Pakistan carried out a brutal attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, targeting a group of tourists. The terror attack killed 26 civilians and security agencies are still fully investigating the conspiracy and its foreign links.
