India Suspends Trade and Educational Ties with Türkiye Over Support for Pakistan

Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk

In a major diplomatic move, India has suspended all trade and educational relations with Türkiye in response to Ankara’s unconditional support for Pakistan during the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.

According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the decision was made as part of India’s foreign policy to review ties with countries that question its sovereignty. The ministry stated that Türkiye’s recent stance during regional hostilities was unacceptable.

Key developments include:

  • Immediate suspension of bilateral trade agreements with Türkiye
  • Termination of educational exchange programs between India and Türkiye
  • Cancellation of security clearance for Turkish companies operating at Indian airports
  • Public campaign in India calling for a boycott of Turkish apples

In a related development, Turkish aviation service provider Çelebi has initiated legal proceedings against the Indian government’s cancellation of its security clearance. The company filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, arguing that the decision was based solely on verbal reasoning without any substantiated evidence of national security threats.

Çelebi’s petition highlights the absence of transparent justification, stating that such arbitrary actions cannot be legally sustained under Indian law.
