Indian-Origin Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Australia for Serial Rape
Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court has sentenced Balish Dhankhar, a 43-year-old Indian-origin community leader, to 40 years in prison for the rape of five women. He will be ineligible for parole for 30 years.
Dhankhar was found guilty of luring women with fake job offers, drugging them, and committing sexual assaults. The court described him as one of Sydney’s most notorious serial rapists, highlighting his calculated and deceptive methods.
According to Australian authorities, he targeted young Korean women between the ages of 21 and 27, many of whom were unconscious or unable to resist. Investigations revealed that he recorded his crimes, adding to the severity of his offenses.
Dhankhar maintained a detailed database ranking his victims based on their appearance and vulnerabilities. The court noted that, despite his public image as a community leader and IT professional, he was secretly engaging in predatory behavior.
His conviction has sparked discussions on job-seeker safety and online recruitment fraud, urging stricter regulations to protect vulnerable individuals. This sentencing is seen as a landmark decision, reinforcing Australia’s commitment to justice for sexual violence survivors.
