Indonesia Offers Temporary Shelter for Gaza’s Wounded and Orphaned Amid Conflict
Indonesia has announced plans to provide temporary refuge to injured Palestinians and orphaned children from Gaza as the humanitarian crisis deepens amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
President Prabowo Subianto stated on Wednesday that the country is prepared to evacuate those suffering from physical injuries and psychological trauma, as well as children who have lost their families. The initiative aims to support victims until they recover and conditions in Gaza are safe for their return.
Indonesia will dispatch aircraft to facilitate the evacuation and has instructed the Foreign Ministry to coordinate directly with Palestinian authorities to finalize logistics. The first phase of the plan includes relocating approximately 1,000 individuals, who will be cared for in Indonesia on a temporary basis.
“This is a humanitarian mission,” President Subianto said. “Our goal is to help them heal and ensure they are safe until the situation improves. This is not permanent resettlement.”
The president also noted plans to work closely with Middle Eastern nations that have already opened their doors to Palestinian refugees. Several countries have encouraged Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, to play a greater role in regional peace efforts.
While acknowledging the complexity of the conflict, Subianto expressed confidence that Indonesia can contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding and humanitarian relief in Gaza. The nation remains a staunch advocate of Palestinian rights and continues to call for increased global efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the crossfire.
This move underscores Indonesia’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian diplomacy and its ongoing support for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Gaza.
