TEHRAN — Iran has accused Israel of launching a cyberattack that briefly hijacked state television broadcasts, airing protest footage and urging citizens to rise up, in what Tehran calls a provocative move amid escalating regional hostilities.
According to Iranian media, the state broadcaster was momentarily interrupted on Wednesday by a broadcast showing clips of women-led protests and an audio message encouraging people to take to the streets. The disruption was reported by the Hamshahri daily on its Telegram channel, which shared a short video of the incident with a message stating.
State TV later issued a warning, attributing the disruption to cyberattacks by the “Zionist enemy” and blaming Israel for the satellite transmission breach. Officials claimed the goal was to incite public unrest and exploit national media infrastructure during a time of heightened security tensions.
The incident comes amid ongoing military escalation between Iran and Israel, which includes missile strikes and covert cyber operations.
This latest cyber incident adds to a series of digital confrontations between Iran and Israel. Both countries have previously accused each other of launching cyberattacks targeting infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and digital media systems.
As of Thursday morning, Israeli authorities had not commented on the hacking claims. Cybersecurity experts warn that such attacks could further destabilize an already volatile region.
