Iran and Pakistan Finalize Plan to Boost Bilateral Tourism Ties Through Five-Year Agreement
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
In a key diplomatic engagement, Iran and Pakistan have agreed to develop a five-year strategic framework aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation and expanding cultural ties between the two neighboring countries.
The agreement was reached during a meeting held on the sidelines of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation’s Tourism Ministers’ Summit in Cairo. Iranian Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, met with Huzaifa Rahman, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Culture and National Heritage.
Salehi Amiri proposed a five-year cooperation agreement focused on mutual tourism development, emphasizing that Iran warmly welcomes Pakistani pilgrims. He described Iran as a “second home” for the Pakistani people and stated that preparations have been made at the Mirjaveh and Rimdan border crossings, including lodging and dining facilities for visiting pilgrims.
Highlighting Iran’s vast tourism assets, the Iranian minister noted that the country offers over one million registered sites across natural, coastal, desert, and wildlife tourism categories. He called Iran the only country with 20 distinct types of tourism experiences.
Salehi Amiri extended a formal invitation to Rahman to attend the upcoming International Urban Tourism Conference in Tehran, to be held with the participation of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General.
Huzaifa Rahman welcomed the proposal and noted that religious tourism to Iran remains a top priority for many Pakistani citizens and added that increased tourism collaboration will strengthen cultural connections and deepen friendship between the two nations.
