Iran Confirms Progress in Nuclear Talks with U.S., Third Round Scheduled for April 26
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Iran and the United States have made “constructive” progress in their second round of indirect nuclear negotiations held in Rome, with Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirming that a third round of high-level talks is scheduled for April 26 in Oman.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the recent discussions as advancing positively, stating that both sides had reached a better understanding on several key principles. The talks, mediated by Oman and hosted at its embassy in the Italian capital, lasted for four hours, according to Iranian media.
“Our discussions were held in a constructive atmosphere and are on the right track,” Araghchi was quoted as saying by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
The technical teams from both countries will continue talks in the days ahead, aimed at narrowing differences over Iran’s nuclear program. The follow-up meeting involving senior negotiators is set to be hosted in Muscat on April 26.
The Iranian and American delegations remained in separate rooms during the talks, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi facilitating communication between the two parties. The U.S. delegation was led by Steve Witkoff, a senior Middle East envoy appointed by President Donald Trump, known for handling sensitive diplomatic missions.
While Tehran has confirmed progress, the U.S. has yet to release an official statement on the outcome of Saturday’s discussions.
The talks aim to bridge the long-standing divide since the U.S. withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement during Trump’s first term.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that the objective remains a peaceful resolution, with both nations expected to address technical details before the next round of senior-level engagement.
