Iran Elected as Vice President of OPCW Executive Council Despite U.S. Opposition
The Islamic Republic of Iran has been elected as the Vice President of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Executive Council during its 108th session, overcoming strong opposition from the United States.
Despite U.S. resistance, the majority of council members voted in favor of Iran, rendering Washington’s efforts ineffective. Asian nations unanimously supported Iran, disregarding American objections.
Alongside the vice presidency, Iran was also unanimously chosen as the representative of the Asian Group within the OPCW Executive Council, further solidifying its diplomatic position.
The OPCW Executive Council meeting commenced on March 4 in The Hague and will continue until March 7, focusing on key decisions regarding global chemical weapons prevention and control.
