TEL AVIV — Air raid sirens blared across central and southern Israel on Monday after Iran launched a wave of ballistic missiles, escalating an already volatile regional crisis.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that its Iron Dome defense system intercepted most of the incoming missiles. Sirens were heard in Tel Aviv, Beersheba, Ashkelon, and surrounding areas, prompting residents to seek shelter.
The IDF confirmed that the missile barrage originated directly from Iranian territory.
“This is a deliberate act of aggression,” said an IDF spokesperson. “We are evaluating our strategic response and remain fully prepared to defend Israeli citizens.”
No immediate casualties or structural damage have been reported, but emergency services remain on standby as the situation unfolds.
Unofficial sources from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the attack was retaliation for Israeli airstrikes on Iranian interests in Syria and Iraq. Iran has not officially acknowledged the missile launch.
The United States, European Union, and United Nations expressed deep concern over the missile launch and urged both nations to exercise restraint.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called an emergency security meeting and vowed to take “all necessary measures” to protect national sovereignty.
