TEHRAN/DOHA/BAGHDAD — Iran launched a series of ballistic missile strikes on U.S. military installations in Syria, Iraq, and Qatar early Monday, significantly raising tensions in the Middle East and prompting international calls for de-escalation.
The offensive, named “Operation Basharat al-Fatah” (Glad Tidings of Victory), was announced by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency. It was described as a “legitimate and proportionate response” to recent U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military targets, including the Fordow nuclear facility and airbases in Karaj and Tehran.
In Qatar, explosions were reported near the capital Doha, with local sources confirming six ballistic missiles were launched at or near Al-Udeid Air Base, a key hub for U.S. military operations in the Gulf. Although the base had reportedly been evacuated prior to the strike, the Qatari government responded by closing its airspace and suspending operations in multiple schools.
In Iraq, Iran targeted the Ain al-Asad Air Base, which houses U.S. troops. Local authorities confirmed that air defense systems were activated and military personnel were directed to shelters. No official casualty figures have been released.
In northeastern Syria, Iranian missiles struck a U.S. base in the Hasakah region. The area was immediately placed under heightened security, with military checkpoints sealing access. Reports from local sources suggested material damage, though casualties remain unverified.
The Iranian military described the strikes as “precise” and aimed at military infrastructure only. However, the U.S. Department of Defense has yet to issue a full statement on the extent of the impact.
Simultaneously, Israeli airstrikes on Iran continued, with the Israeli military claiming to have destroyed 15 aircraft across six Iranian airbases, as well as targeting a key military complex in Parchin and striking a university and prison in Tehran. Iran confirmed at least 10 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel were killed in the attacks.
Power outages were reported in northern Tehran, and explosions were heard across Karaj and Qom provinces. Iran’s air defense systems were seen intercepting multiple incoming projectiles, according to Iranian media.
In retaliation, Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles into southern Israel, hitting key infrastructure and causing widespread power outages. Sirens sounded across several cities, including Ashdod, Nahariya, and Jerusalem, forcing civilians into shelters for extended periods.
The U.S. military command held an emergency meeting at the White House, chaired by President Donald Trump, who praised the precision of earlier U.S. strikes on Iran but warned of further action if Iranian aggression continues.
Regional governments, including Bahrain, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, are on high alert amid fears of a wider conflict. Civil aviation authorities in the region have diverted flights, and commercial airlines have suspended operations to and from the affected zones.
The United Nations and several global powers have urged restraint, warning that the region stands on the brink of a broader war unless diplomacy is urgently pursued.
