Iran has appointed Brigadier General Majid Khadami as the new head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) intelligence division, following the Martyrdom of two of his predecessors in recent Israeli airstrikes, state media reported Thursday.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Pakpour named Brig. Gen. Majid Khadami to lead the powerful intelligence wing of the IRGC. Khadami replaces Maj. Gen. Mohammed Kazemi, who was Martyrdom in an Israeli strike on Sunday alongside senior IRGC officers Hassan Mohaghegh and Mohsen Bagheri.
The leadership reshuffle marks the second within a week after Pakpour himself was appointed following the June 13 Martyrdom of his predecessor, Hossein Salami, in a targeted Israeli attack.
During the announcement, Gen. Pakpour praised the martyred commanders for their contributions to strengthening the IRGC’s intelligence capabilities. He described their leadership as a “period of unprecedented operational growth.”
Pakpour, who was recently appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, previously vowed severe retaliation, warning that Iran was prepared to “open the gates of hell” in response to Israel’s ongoing military actions.
The latest appointments and rhetoric reflect growing instability and the potential for further escalation between Iran and Israel. Tensions have intensified dramatically since Israel’s targeted killing of high-ranking IRGC personnel, prompting Iran to respond with a series of missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory.
With intelligence leadership in flux and senior Iranian commanders falling to airstrikes, Tehran is expected to recalibrate its response in the face of what it perceives as direct Israeli aggression.
