Iran supreme leader criticizes proposed nuclear talks with US, Negotiating with the U.S. is Neither Wise Nor Honorable
Iran’s Supreme Leader and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has firmly stated that negotiating with the United States is neither wise nor honorable.
His remarks came during a meeting with commanders of Iran’s Air Force and Air Defense Force, an annual event held as part of the Ten-Day Dawn (Daheh Fajr) celebrations, commemorating the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the historic allegiance of Air Force officers to Imam Khomeini.
U.S. Negotiations Have Failed in the Past
Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that negotiating with the U.S. will not resolve Iran’s issues. He stated:
“When negotiating table with the U.S. We should not be misled. will solve our problems. That is simply not the case—experience has proven otherwise.”
He cited the nuclear deal negotiations of the 2010s, where Iran made significant concessions, but the U.S. failed to uphold its commitments. The agreement was supposed to lift sanctions, but instead, new obstacles were created, leaving Iran under constant international pressure.
The U.S. Cannot Be Trusted
Referring to former U.S. President Donald Trump, Ayatollah Khamenei reminded that Trump openly vowed to tear up the nuclear deal—and he did. He stressed that this was not just Trump’s doing, but a consistent pattern in U.S. foreign policy, demonstrating America’s unreliability in agreements.
Iran Will Respond to Threats in Kind
The Supreme Leader warned that if the U.S. threatens Iran, it will receive a counter-threat, and if it acts against Iran’s security, Iran will retaliate accordingly. He declared:
“This is our Islamic and moral duty, and we will never back down from defending our nation.”
Iran’s Strength Lies in Self-Reliance
Acknowledging Iran’s economic challenges, Ayatollah Khamenei asserted that the solution lies within the country rather than in foreign negotiations. He expressed confidence in Iran’s leadership and its ability to overcome hardships through national unity and perseverance.
He praised the annual February 11 (Bahman 22) rallies, marking Iran’s Independence Day, as a testament to the Iranian people’s unity and unwavering commitment to their sovereignty.
