TEHRAN — Amid escalating regional tensions, Iran’s parliament has approved a bill to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in direct response to recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes on its nuclear facilities.
According to Iranian media reports, the bill was passed by the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee after a lengthy session held on Monday. Committee spokesperson Ebrahim Rezai confirmed that the legislation aims to halt collaboration with the IAEA unless Iran’s nuclear sites receive concrete security guarantees.
“Following an in-depth review of the regional situation and the IAEA’s conduct, the committee voted in favor of suspending cooperation,” Rezai stated.
The bill will now be submitted to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council for final approval. If endorsed, the Iranian government will cease providing access and guarantees to IAEA inspectors, potentially revoking their ability to monitor or inspect the country’s nuclear facilities.
“Under this plan,” Rezai explained, “Iran may refuse the installation of surveillance cameras at nuclear sites, deny IAEA inspectors entry, and halt submission of nuclear reports—until assurances are provided for the security of our facilities.”
The move comes days after U.S. B-2 bombers launched coordinated strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—prompting Iranian outrage. President Donald Trump declared the operation a success, claiming that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been destroyed.
However, Iranian authorities dispute the claim, asserting that the country’s enriched uranium reserves remain intact and its nuclear program is not crippled.
“Despite American propaganda, Iran retains its enriched uranium stockpile and remains committed to its sovereign right to nuclear development,” Iranian officials said.
The bill, if implemented, is expected to significantly limit the IAEA’s access to Iranian nuclear facilities and could intensify diplomatic tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program.
