TEHRAN — Iran has honored television presenter Sahar Emami with a striking tribute in Veliasr Square, Tehran, after she survived a live Israeli airstrike that targeted the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) building.
Emami, hailed as a symbol of national defiance, appeared on the banner with her finger raised in resistance, accompanied by a line from Persian poet Ferdowsi lauding the bravery of women in times of war.
Emami was delivering a live broadcast when Israeli missiles hit the IRIB compound late Monday night, reportedly shaking the studio and filling it with rubble and dust. Iranian media footage showed her fleeing her anchor desk as chaos erupted.
The broadcaster later confirmed the facility was struck by four missiles, resulting in major damage.
According to Press TV, a state-affiliated outlet, the airstrike killed IRIB staff member Masoumeh Azimi, who suffered fatal injuries from the blast’s shockwave. Several other media personnel were wounded, according to IRIB’s English-language affiliate, Press TV.
Iranian authorities and state media have since declared Emami a national heroine, with tributes pouring in across social platforms and official channels.
“She stayed at her post until the last second — she represents the unwavering voice of our people,” wrote one state journalist on Telegram.
Independent verification of the casualties and strike details remains limited due to restricted access to the site.
