The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has strongly rejected a new United Nations report highlighting a rise in security incidents, insisting the country is experiencing the highest level of peace and stability in recent history.
In a statement issued on Saturday, IEA spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid dismissed the quarterly UN report as “inaccurate” and “propagandistic.” The UN had recorded 2,299 safety and security-related incidents across Afghanistan between February 1 and April 30, representing a 3% year-on-year increase. The report also noted a 7% rise in theft cases during the same period.
Mujahid accused the UN and other international organizations of distorting the realities in Afghanistan, claiming their assessments misrepresent the situation by exaggerating isolated incidents and misclassifying routine criminal acts as security threats.
“The security situation in Afghanistan is presently more stable than at any time in recent history, and the population is living in peace,” Mujahid stated. He highlighted the peaceful observance of the Eid al-Adha holidays, during which over two million Afghans reportedly traveled across the country—a sign, he argued, of growing public confidence in national security.
The Islamic Emirate contends that crime levels in Afghanistan are far lower than in many other countries and should not be used to question the government’s authority or the nation’s stability.
IEA officials further claimed that global institutions continue to adopt biased frameworks when evaluating Afghanistan, often underestimating progress achieved since the Taliban’s return to power. The statement emphasized that these reports hinder the international perception of peace in Afghanistan and are aimed at fueling fear and misunderstanding.
While the Taliban rebuffs the findings, the UN maintains that its reports are based on verified data from a wide range of sources. The organization has not yet responded directly to the IEA’s accusations but continues to monitor security developments across the region closely.
