Israel Allows Limited Food Aid into Gaza After Weeks-Long Blockade Amid Global Pressure
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
The Israeli government has announced the conditional resumption of food aid to the Gaza Strip, ending a 10-week blockade that had cut off essential supplies to the besieged territory. The move follows mounting international pressure and escalating concerns over a potential starvation crisis.
In a statement issued by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, Israel confirmed it would allow the entry of a “basic quantity” of food into Gaza.
“Following IDF recommendations and in consideration of operational requirements, Israel will allow limited food supplies to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip while continuing military efforts to dismantle Hamas infrastructure,” the statement noted.
Israel’s total blockade, imposed in early March, halted the delivery of food, medicine, fuel, and other critical aid. Humanitarian organizations and global leaders have repeatedly condemned the move, warning of mass hunger and the collapse of civilian infrastructure.
The blockade has left Gaza’s population struggling for survival. Community kitchens have shut down, and the region’s primary aid agencies—the UN World Food Programme and World Central Kitchen—have both reported running out of food. Long queues for small food portions have become a daily reality, with fresh produce and meat now rare luxuries.
According to Israeli officials cited by Axios, aid will resume through pre-established humanitarian routes until a new distribution system is established.
The decision comes as Israel intensifies its military offensive, launching expanded ground operations in both northern and southern Gaza. The IDF described the latest assault as part of a broader strategy to gain “operational control” over Hamas strongholds.
