Israel Backs US Ceasefire Extension Plan, Blames Hamas for Refusal, Warns of Possible War Resumption
The Israeli government has endorsed a US-backed proposal to extend the ceasefire in Gaza, but claims Hamas is rejecting the plan, raising concerns that military operations could resume.
Israeli officials announced on Sunday that they had agreed to prolong the initial phase of the ceasefire deal, facilitated by US mediation. However, they accused Hamas of refusing to cooperate, leading to a halt in humanitarian aid deliveries into the region.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the pause in aid shipments was necessary due to concerns that resources were being misused by militant groups. “Humanitarian aid has been turned into a terrorist budget against us,” Netanyahu said.
Israeli media reported that the decision to suspend aid entry was reached in a high-level meeting involving security officials and US representatives. The move comes amid rising international pressure to prevent further escalation.
Hamas Accused of Blocking Ceasefire Talks
Israeli sources argue that Hamas has rejected efforts to extend the first phase of the truce, instead pushing for a complete cessation of hostilities without additional conditions. The Israeli government insists that any further agreements must include the return of hostages held by Hamas and additional security assurances.
“The ceasefire could have been prolonged, but Hamas refuses to engage,” an Israeli official told local media. “If they continue to reject negotiations, the war will resume.”
