Israel Reportedly Agrees to Ceasefire Proposal with Lebanon

Israel has reportedly agreed in principle to a US-backed ceasefire proposal with Hezbollah in Lebanon, though certain issues remain to be ironed out. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to be working on strategies to present the agreement to the public, according to reports Sunday night.

The development follows intense consultations led by Netanyahu as Israel endured sustained rocket fire from Lebanon, prompting the Israeli Air Force to conduct multiple strikes on Hezbollah positions in Beirut throughout the day.

The ceasefire negotiations have been mediated by the United States, with reports suggesting that a US envoy cautioned both sides that failure to reach an agreement now could lead to a prolonged impasse, potentially waiting for a shift in the American administration.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem stated last week that the group had reviewed the truce proposal, submitted its response, and was awaiting Israel’s decision.

The situation remains fluid, with observers highlighting the significant stakes for regional stability. Details on the unresolved issues and the timeline for any formal announcement are yet to be disclosed.
