Israeli authorities IDF Reservists Arrested for Alleged Espionage on Behalf of Iran
Israeli authorities have arrested two IDF reservists on suspicion of spying for Iran in exchange for financial compensation, the police and Shin Bet security service announced on Monday.
Iron Dome Soldier Allegedly Passed Sensitive Information
The primary suspect, Yuri Eliasfov, 21, served in the IDF’s Iron Dome unit and is accused of transferring highly sensitive material about the missile defense system to an Iranian handler.
Reports indicate that Eliasfov filmed a video of the Iron Dome system and sent it to the Iranian agent. In return, he allegedly received $2,500 for his actions.
Recruiting a Fellow Soldier
Eliasfov later recruited his friend, Georgi Andreyev, 21, who served at an IDF headquarters, into the espionage operation. Andreyev reportedly received $50 from the Iranian agent for his involvement.
Online Connection to Iranian Intelligence
According to investigators, Eliasfov initially came into contact with the Iranian agent online while searching for job opportunities. The incident underscores growing cybersecurity concerns regarding foreign intelligence recruitment through digital platforms.
Authorities have vowed to take strict action against any attempts to compromise Israel’s national security.
