Israeli drone has attacked the southern Lebanese town of al-Khiyam, injuring several civilians, reports from Al Jadeed television confirm. The strike occurred shortly after Lebanese military units entered the town, following the pullout of Israeli forces in line with the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
The Lebanese military had been clearing debris from the roads leading into al-Khiyam and conducting bomb disposal operations as part of the agreed process. Authorities have advised civilians not to return to their homes due to safety concerns.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attack, calling it a breach of the 60-day ceasefire agreement, which was brokered by the United States and France. Mikati accused Israel of failing to honor the terms of the ceasefire, emphasizing the need for immediate action by the ceasefire monitoring committee to prevent further violations.
General Michael Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, visited Beirut on December 11, where he welcomed the Lebanese military’s deployment in al-Khiyam, describing it as an important step toward regional stability.
