Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing a lack of trust in his management of the ongoing military operations, particularly regarding the conflict with Hamas. The move has triggered widespread protests across Israel, with demonstrators taking to the streets in cities like Tel Aviv.
In response to the dismissal, hundreds of protesters gathered outside Netanyahu’s residence, demanding his resignation. Security around Netanyahu’s home was heightened, and protesters attempted to block major roads, including the Ayalon Highway, by setting fires.
Gallant had publicly criticized Netanyahu’s insistence on maintaining military pressure on Hamas, which is believed to have led to his removal from office. Following Gallant’s dismissal, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen has been appointed as the new Defense Minister.
