Japan’s Embassy Inaugurates Electricity Projects to Empower Rural Communities in Mandi Bahauddin
Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, **Akamatsu Shuichi**, inaugurated two electricity projects in **Mandi Bahauddin district, Punjab**, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for rural communities. These initiatives, led by the **Hana Development Council (HDC)**, reflect Japan’s commitment to improving health, infrastructure, and living conditions in vulnerable areas of Pakistan.
The projects were funded through Japan’s **Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program**, with a total financial contribution of **USD 92,307**:
– **USD 42,818** allocated in 2019 for electricity facilities in **eight communities**.
– **USD 49,489** granted in 2022 to extend electricity access to **seven additional communities**.
The funding has enabled the installation of sustainable electricity infrastructure, bringing modern energy services to a total of **15 communities**, transforming the lives of thousands in the region.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by Japanese Embassy officials, NGO representatives, and community leaders, marked the completion of these impactful projects. Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi lauded the efforts of **Hameeda Waheeduddin**, a Member of the Punjab Assembly and President of the Hana Development Council, for her dedication to improving rural living standards.
The ambassador emphasized the broader implications of these projects:
– **Empowering Communities**: Access to electricity facilitates economic growth, education, and better healthcare.
– **Improving Daily Lives**: Reliable energy improves living conditions and provides opportunities for development.
This marks the third time the **Hana Development Council** has received grants from the Japanese government. Over its 20-year history, the NGO has worked tirelessly to uplift marginalized communities in Pakistan. Ambassador Shuichi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development, noting that these initiatives strengthen the enduring ties between the two nations.
By providing sustainable energy solutions, these projects not only address immediate needs but also lay the foundation for long-term socioeconomic growth in Mandi Bahauddin. They are a testament to Japan’s dedication to fostering grassroots development and building strong international partnerships.
