Jewish Community Protests Hamas Book Launch at London School of Economics
The Jewish community in London staged a protest on Monday against a book launch at the London School of Economics (LSE), condemning it as an attempt to provide a platform for Hamas.
The book, Understanding Hamas: And Why That Matters, authored by Helena Cobban and Rami George Khouri, has faced backlash for allegedly downplaying Hamas’s role in the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel. Critics claim the book misrepresents the group’s actions, falsely suggesting that Hamas primarily targeted military sites rather than civilians.
Approximately 100 Jewish community members gathered outside LSE, denouncing the event as an effort to justify terrorism and whitewash Hamas’s violent history. Protesters held signs condemning the book’s narrative and called on the university to reconsider hosting such events.
Meanwhile, a counter-protest supporting the book launch was held by pro-Palestinian activists, leading to heightened tensions between the two groups. Security was increased at the venue to prevent clashes, and law enforcement was present to ensure the demonstration remained peaceful.
