Justice Munib Akhtar takes oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Justice Munib Akhtar officially assumed the responsibilities of Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan after taking oath in a formal ceremony at the Supreme Court.

The oath was administered by senior judge Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail. The ceremony was attended by judges of the Supreme Court, senior lawyers, and officials from the Attorney General’s office.

Justice Munib Akhtar will serve in the acting role until June 6, after which Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is scheduled to take over the position from June 6 to June 10.

These interim appointments follow the temporary overseas travel of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, who is expected to return on June 10. The appointments aim to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the country’s top judiciary during his absence.

The judiciary’s seamless transition of leadership highlights its institutional continuity and commitment to constitutional responsibilities.
