Justice Yahya Afridi Appointed as Chief Justice of Pakistan

President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Supreme Court judge, Justice Yahya Afridi, as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan. His appointment, set to take effect from October 26, 2024, is for a term of three years.

A statement from the President House confirmed that the appointment was made under Articles 175A (3), 177, and 179 of the Constitution. The statement further mentioned that President Zardari has also approved October 26 as the date for Justice Afridi’s oath-taking ceremony.

Justice Afridi’s elevation to the role of Chief Justice follows a distinguished judicial career and is seen as a pivotal step for Pakistan’s judiciary, expected to bring his wealth of experience to the country’s highest judicial office.
