ISLAMABAD — Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Yerzhan Kistafin, on Wednesday underscored the vital importance of strengthening bilateral media cooperation between Pakistan and Kazakhstan.

Speaking during a visit to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) headquarters, where he met with APP Managing Director Muhammad Asim Khichi, Ambassador Kistafin highlighted that the existing news exchange agreement between APP and Kazakhstan’s official media outlets had been in place for over a decade. He stressed the need to review and modernize the agreement to better meet the requirements of today’s dynamic media landscape.

The ambassador noted that strong collaboration between official media institutions was crucial to promoting economic, trade, and tourism ties between the two countries. He called on the APP to play a proactive role in deepening people-to-people connections, which would help further cement Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations.

He also pointed out the significant geo-strategic importance of both countries in terms of regional economic connectivity and global trade. Ambassador Kistafin added that efforts were underway to enhance connectivity through rail and road projects as well as direct flights between Pakistan and Kazakhstan, with Lahore and Karachi identified as starting points.

He proposed that the introduction of visa-free regimes within Central Asia and Pakistan was essential to encourage tourism and economic linkages. Additionally, he mentioned that plans for the Pakistan-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan railway line were progressing with strong support from stakeholders.

“There is tremendous potential in bilateral and transit trade between our countries, and private-sector cooperation will be key to unlocking these opportunities,” he emphasized.

In response, APP Managing Director Muhammad Asim Khichi agreed that media partnerships were crucial to further strengthening bilateral ties. He assured the ambassador of APP’s commitment to mutual cooperation and stressed the need to update the news-sharing agreement to reflect evolving challenges and opportunities.

Khichi reaffirmed that the official media plays a vital role in fostering public awareness and enhancing mutual understanding between the two nations.
