Kremlin Awaits U.S. Briefing on Ukraine Ceasefire Proposal
The Kremlin has confirmed it is awaiting official details from the United States on a proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, following recent diplomatic talks in Saudi Arabia. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is closely reviewing the joint U.S.-Ukrainian statement, which includes provisions for a ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, and the return of displaced Ukrainian children.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz are expected to provide Russia with further details in the coming days. The proposal, backed by Ukraine, places the next move on Moscow, with Washington urging Russia to consider the agreement.
Following the negotiations, the United States resumed military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, reinforcing Kyiv’s defensive position. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has indicated plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the ceasefire, though no date has been confirmed.
A senior Russian source suggested that Moscow might find the ceasefire difficult to accept, citing recent Russian military gains in Ukraine. Additionally, Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is scheduled to meet Putin in Moscow on Thursday, signaling ongoing diplomatic engagement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the U.S. to persuade Russia to agree to the deal, as global attention remains fixed on Moscow’s response.
