Kuwait’s Supreme Committee to Investigate the Kuwaiti Citizenship has announced the revocation of citizenship for 1,145 women and 13 men, following a significant review of citizenship cases. The decision, which will be published in the official gazette, was made based on a thorough review of the country’s constitution and nationality laws, with recommendations from the Interior Ministry.
The new decree includes the withdrawal of nationality from individuals who were found to have obtained Kuwaiti citizenship through fraudulent means or false statements. This action is in line with Article 21 of the Nationality Law, which allows for the cancellation of nationality in cases involving deception or incorrect documentation.
The decision also extends to individuals who may have acquired citizenship through affiliation with others whose nationality was revoked. In a meeting chaired by the Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, the committee decided to annul the nationality of a total of 1,647 individuals.
This action brings the total number of cases under review to 4,601 since October 31, part of a broader campaign by Kuwaiti authorities aimed at removing individuals who fraudulently obtained nationality. The government has emphasized that the revocation of these citizenships is a measure to safeguard the nation’s identity, ensure stability, and maintain the integrity of Kuwaiti society.
