Kuwait’s Supreme Committee to Investigate the Kuwaiti Citizenship has revoked the citizenships of 930 individuals, marking a record for the largest single-day nationality revocation. This decision was made during a meeting held on Thursday, with the cases now set to be presented to the Cabinet for final approval.
This latest action follows a previous revocation on October 31, when the committee annulled the citizenship of 489 people, also setting a new milestone. Prior to this, 112 individuals had their citizenships revoked in a similar move in September.
Since the committee began its work earlier this year in March, unofficial estimates suggest that over 2,000 individuals have lost their citizenships, although the full official tally remains pending. The primary reason behind these revocations is linked to fraudulent citizenship applications, with many individuals allegedly receiving citizenship without the required official decrees.
Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf explained that the revocations are aimed at those who gained citizenship improperly, particularly through approvals bypassing legal procedures by previous governments. He assured that each case was carefully examined with clear evidence and proper documentation, and emphasized that this process is ongoing.
The committee’s rigorous actions highlight Kuwait’s commitment to ensuring that all citizenships are granted in compliance with the law, and Minister Yusuf reaffirmed that the campaign to revoke fraudulent nationalities would continue.
