Tel Aviv — A new survey conducted by the Israeli daily Maariv has revealed that 62% of Israelis believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government no longer holds the confidence of the public.

The poll, carried out between August 20–21 with 509 respondents, asked: “Regardless of how you voted in the last election, do you believe the government has the confidence of the nation today?”

According to the results:

  • 62% said the government has lost public confidence.
  • 27% said it still retains majority trust.
  • 11% were undecided.

The survey carries a margin of error of 4.4%, as reported by The Israeli Media.

The poll also highlighted public opinion on a possible hostage deal amid the ongoing Gaza conflict:

  • 26% want an immediate agreement, even if it secures only some captives, due to their deteriorating conditions in captivity.
  • 46% favor a comprehensive deal that would both free hostages and end the war in Gaza.
  • 18% oppose any agreement, arguing the military should continue operations against Hamas, even at the risk of captives’ lives.
  • 10% were unsure.

The survey results come as nationwide protests against Netanyahu intensify, with families of hostages demonstrating outside his residence in Jerusalem and demanding urgent action. Analysts say the findings underscore public dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the Gaza war and the ongoing hostage crisis, which has deepened political divisions across Israel.
