Majority of Israelis Support Ending War for Hostages’ Release – Poll
A new Channel 12 poll reveals that 69% of Israelis support ending the war in exchange for the release of all remaining hostages, while 21% oppose the deal. The survey also shows that 54% of coalition voters back such an agreement, despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s firm opposition.
Netanyahu’s government has refused to negotiate a permanent ceasefire in exchange for the 59 hostages still held in Gaza. Instead, it has focused on securing their release through temporary ceasefires, allowing Israel to resume military operations against Hamas. Officials argue that ending the war now would leave Hamas in power, undermining Israel’s long-term security.
However, critics warn that continued military operations jeopardize the remaining hostages, 24 of whom are believed to be alive. Arab nations and diplomatic partners have proposed an alternative plan: sidelining Hamas through diplomacy and gradually reintroducing the Palestinian Authority in Gaza—a proposal Netanyahu has firmly rejected.
With public support shifting, pressure is mounting on Netanyahu’s government to reconsider its hardline stance as international mediation efforts continue.
