Massive Fire Erupts at Malaysian Gas Pipeline, Injuring Dozens
A devastating fire at a gas pipeline operated by Malaysia’s state energy firm, Petronas, has injured at least 33 people and left several residents trapped in their homes, authorities confirmed.
The blaze broke out at approximately 8:10 AM local time in Putra Heights, Selangor, near Kuala Lumpur, sending towering flames and thick smoke into the sky. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before the fire rapidly spread.
Emergency teams have been deployed to rescue those trapped in affected homes, while authorities have begun evacuating nearby residents as a precautionary measure. Six of the injured have been hospitalized with burn injuries.
Petronas stated that the affected pipeline has been isolated, and efforts are underway to fully extinguish the fire. Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing, while three nearby gas stations have been temporarily shut down for safety.
The incident comes as many Malaysians were celebrating Eid, with some residents describing how the force of the explosion shook their homes. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging the public to stay clear of the affected area.
