Medvedev Fires Back at Trump, Warns West Could Spark World War III
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Top Russian security official Dmitry Medvedev has brushed off U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning to President Vladimir Putin, saying it is not Russia that is playing with fire, but the world that is risking World War III.
Trump, speaking over the weekend, warned that Putin was “playing with fire” amid escalating tensions in Europe and the ongoing war in Ukraine. In response, Medvedev, who currently serves as Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council, posted a defiant message on Telegram, dismissing Trump’s warning as misplaced.
> “The real danger isn’t from Moscow, but from reckless Western interference,” Medvedev wrote. “If the U.S. continues pushing NATO deeper into confrontation with Russia, it’s not fire they’ll get—it’s World War III.”
Medvedev’s comments represent one of the most direct Russian responses to Trump’s recent statements. Once viewed as a moderate, Medvedev has increasingly taken on a hardline, nationalist tone, frequently warning of nuclear escalation if Russia’s territorial interests are challenged.
He also accused the West of destabilizing the global order and pushing for direct confrontation through arms supplies and sanctions against Moscow.
