Muhammad Saleem has officially taken up his role as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada, marking a new chapter in fostering diplomatic relations between the two nations.
A seasoned diplomat, Saleem joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1995 and has since served in various capacities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. His extensive career includes assignments in Germany, Romania, Bahrain, and Canada, as well as his tenure as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Tanzania from 2020 to 2022.
In his remarks, High Commissioner Saleem expressed a strong commitment to enhancing Pakistan-Canada relations, with a focus on political, economic, and cultural cooperation. He highlighted areas such as trade, investment, higher education, and cultural exchanges as key priorities.
Addressing the vibrant Pakistani community in Canada, estimated at over 400,000 individuals, Saleem emphasized the importance of unity. He stated, “Pakistan is our identity. Instead of dividing into small political groups, we must work together as a cohesive community to strengthen our collective presence.”
Saleem also underscored the critical role of the diaspora in acting as a bridge between the two countries, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.
