Former Pakistan cricket team’s legendary leg-spinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, has once again been appointed as the spin bowling coach of the Bangladesh national team by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
A senior BCB official confirmed that Mushtaq Ahmed will be available for the upcoming Test series against South Africa and will continue working with the team on a series-to-series basis thereafter.
Reports indicate that the Bangladesh board is looking to secure a long-term contract with him until the end of the year, depending on his availability.
On October 19, Mushtaq Ahmed actively participated in the team’s training session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, where he was seen working closely with the team’s new head coach, Phil Simmons. Simmons, from Sri Lanka, was appointed after the suspension of Chandika Hathurusingha.
It’s worth noting that Mushtaq Ahmed previously served as the spin bowling coach for Bangladesh during the T20 World Cup 2024 and the series against Pakistan. However, he was not part of the team’s coaching staff for the recent series against India.
His return is seen as a crucial move for Bangladesh’s preparations for the two-Test series against South Africa, starting on October 21 in Chattogram.
Following the series against South Africa, Bangladesh is scheduled to play ODI series against Afghanistan and the West Indies, though Mushtaq Ahmed’s participation in these series will depend on his schedule and the BCB’s requirements.
