Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Alissa, met today with H.E. Sheikh Dr. Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of Indonesia’s Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Council, to enhance their strategic partnership and discuss the future of the G20 Religious Summit (R20).
The meeting, held at Sheikh Alissa’s office, brought together two of the most influential figures in the global Islamic community. Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), which Dr. Staquf leads, is the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, representing an estimated 164 million Muslims—around 57.6% of the country’s population.
Both leaders reiterated their shared commitment to promoting interfaith harmony, religious moderation, and global peace through collaborative efforts between MWL and NU.
A key topic of discussion was the future trajectory of the **G20 Religious Summit (R20)**—a joint initiative launched by the MWL and NU to bring religious leaders into global policy dialogues. They reviewed the summit’s achievements and explored ways to deepen its impact on international discussions around faith, ethics, and development.
In addition to R20, Sheikh Alissa and Dr. Staquf addressed various topics of mutual interest, including educational initiatives, counter-extremism efforts, and fostering deeper engagement among Muslim communities worldwide. The leaders reaffirmed their intention to continue close cooperation in shaping a peaceful and unified global Islamic presence.
