ISLAMABAD — National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday congratulated the people and government of Iran for their courage and resilience in the wake of Israeli aggression, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for its neighbor.
During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam, Speaker Sadiq emphasized the strong and historic bonds between Pakistan and Iran, rooted in shared religion, culture, and centuries of history.
Condemning Israel’s recent attack on Iran, Speaker Sadiq termed it a blatant violation of international law. He welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire, stressing that the world urgently needs peace instead of further conflict.
Highlighting Pakistan’s continued efforts for peace and stability, he recalled Pakistan’s firm response to Indian aggression, which, according to him, had exposed the growing strategic ties between India and Israel.
The Speaker argued that Iran should consider reviewing its diplomatic relationship with India, given India’s unconstructive role during the Iran-Israel crisis.
He also expressed deep grief over the loss of more than 50,000 Palestinian lives as a result of Israeli actions, calling it a tragedy that resonates deeply with every Pakistani.
Speaker Sadiq reminded the audience that Pakistan’s National Assembly was the first legislature in the world to pass a resolution condemning the Israeli attack on Iran. He noted that over 200 members of parliament had voiced their solidarity with Iran during the debate on the federal budget for 2025–26.
He warned that the recent conflicts involving Pakistan and India, and Iran and Israel, are a reminder of how urgently the world needs sustainable peace. He further stressed that Israeli attacks clearly breach international law and the United Nations Charter.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s strong ties with Iran, Speaker Sadiq described Iran as a trusted and brotherly nation. He pledged that Pakistan would continue to enhance its cooperation with Iran, particularly in parliamentary and economic affairs, noting that closer parliamentary dialogue could strengthen relations and build people-to-people ties.
In response, Iranian Ambassador Moghadam expressed gratitude to Speaker Sadiq and the people of Pakistan for their steadfast and principled support, describing Pakistan as a true and reliable friend in difficult times.
The ambassador appreciated Speaker Sadiq for being the first to voice solidarity after Israel’s attack and thanked Pakistan for backing Iran on all international platforms.
He noted that the Israeli attack was a deliberate attempt to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program, and said Israel’s weakened position had forced the United States to become directly involved in the conflict.
Ambassador Moghadam stated that Israel’s attack was a deliberate attempt to damage Iran’s nuclear program, adding that Israel’s weakened position had pulled the United States deeper into the conflict.
Finally, he acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and emphasized expanding parliamentary cooperation to deepen bilateral engagement and understanding between Iran and Pakistan.
