NADRA Clarifies ‘Resident of AJK State’ Entry on CNICs
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that the phrase “Resident of AJK State” is imprinted in black on Smart Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) and in red on regular CNICs, as per existing regulations and policies.
To have this designation on a CNIC, applicants must provide a valid State Subject Certificate (Class 1, 2, or 3) issued by the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Without this certificate, NADRA cannot include the residency status on the CNIC.
Amid recent rumors on social media suggesting changes to this policy, NADRA has strongly refuted such claims, calling them baseless and misleading.
In some cases where this imprint was missing, NADRA identified two possible reasons:
1. The applicant failed to submit the required State Subject Certificate at the time of application.
2. Errors by the data entry operator during CNIC processing.
For applicants whose CNICs were mistakenly processed due to operator errors, NADRA has proactively reached out and arranged for **free reissuance** of their CNICs with the correct imprint.
However, those who did not submit the required certificate initially are advised to reapply, pay the necessary fees, and provide the proper documentation to get a corrected CNIC.
NADRA reaffirmed its commitment to legal compliance and assured that all identity documents are issued strictly according to prescribed regulations and policies. The authority remains dedicated to efficient, transparent, and professional service for all citizens.
