The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high-alert weather advisory for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), cautioning residents about the risk of flash floods and landslides due to incoming thunderstorms and heavy rainfall Saturday night.

According to the NDMA’s National Emergency Operations Center, a weather system moving in from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is expected to interact with a western disturbance. This interaction could result in intense thunderstorms, strong winds, and torrential rain across northern Pakistan, particularly impacting Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining areas.

The forecast indicates that areas such as Swat, Dir, Chitral, Malakand, Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, and Mansehra could experience adverse weather from Saturday evening into the night, with possible flash floods and landslides.

The NDMA has warned of strong winds and dust storms, which could damage rooftops, vehicles, and infrastructure, while significantly reducing visibility and increasing the risk of traffic accidents and short-term power outages. Weak trees may be uprooted, and loose structures pose a danger to public safety.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay clear of billboards and electric poles, and park vehicles in safe, sheltered areas.

The NDMA emphasized the importance of early preparedness and recommended all residents, especially in low-lying and mountainous regions, to remain alert. Sudden flooding in rivers and streams, coupled with the risk of landslides, could lead to road blockages and communication network disruptions.

Citizens are urged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for up-to-date weather alerts and safety instructions. Local authorities have also been placed on standby to respond to emergencies.
