Netanyahu, Trump Hold Talks on Israel’s Gaza Offensive Strategy

Tel Aviv — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held a high-level discussion with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Israel’s latest military plans to advance its offensive in Gaza, the Prime Minister’s Office announced Sunday.

According to the official statement, the talks focused on Israel’s intent to take control of the remaining Hamas strongholds in the enclave, with the goal of bringing the ongoing conflict to an end.

“The two leaders discussed Israel’s plans to eliminate Hamas’s last bastions in Gaza in order to secure the release of the hostages and ensure the group’s complete defeat,” the statement said.

The Israeli military has been intensifying its operations in southern and central Gaza, targeting what it describes as the last operational hubs of Hamas militants. The government in Jerusalem has repeatedly stated that the offensive’s objectives are twofold — to free hostages held since the October 2023 attacks and to dismantle Hamas’s military infrastructure.

On Sunday, Israeli military vehicles were seen maneuvering deep inside Gaza, signaling the continuation of ground operations.

While the U.S. has maintained its support for Israel’s right to self-defense, the Trump administration has also emphasized the importance of avoiding civilian casualties. Washington has been closely monitoring the developments and engaging in back channel talks aimed at ensuring humanitarian aid continues to reach Gaza residents.

The White House has yet to issue its own readout of the conversation between Trump and Netanyahu.

The escalation comes amid growing calls from the United Nations and several world leaders for a ceasefire to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe in the densely populated territory. Israel, however, insists that halting operations before Hamas’s defeat would only prolong the conflict.

Diplomatic sources suggest that the Trump-Netanyahu dialogue could play a key role in shaping the next phase of the Gaza conflict and in determining whether future negotiations for a long-term truce are possible.
