Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has sworn in the largest Cabinet in Indonesia since 1966, comprising 109 members. This significant lineup reflects his commitment to establishing a robust government.
Unveiling the Cabinet late Sunday, Subianto named it the “Red and White Cabinet,” a nod to the colors of Indonesia’s national flag. He officially took office as the eighth president of Southeast Asia’s largest economy on Sunday.
In contrast to the previous administration led by President Joko Widodo, which included 34 ministers and heads of government agencies, Subianto’s Cabinet marks a substantial increase in personnel. The last time Indonesia saw such a large Cabinet was in 1966, when the first President Sukarno appointed 132 ministers during a politically charged period following a failed coup in 1965. That Cabinet, known as the Dwikora Cabinet 2, was dissolved just a month later.
Subianto’s expansive Cabinet signals his intent to mobilize resources and support for his administration’s initiatives as he embarks on a new chapter for the nation.
