New Rainfall Forecast and Flood Warning Issued in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has announced a new rainfall system set to begin in the northern regions on October 5, continuing through October 8. This comes as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) cautions that heavy rains from September 26 to October 1 may lead to fresh flooding in eastern Punjab and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mahar Sahibzada Khan, the Director General of the Meteorological Department, shared insights with Radio Pakistan, stating, “The expected rainfall will persist from October 5 to 8.” He also mentioned that rainfall levels are anticipated to be below average from October to December this year, following the monsoon season.

Regarding water reservoir conditions, Khan highlighted that recent heavy rainfall has filled the Tarbela Dam to 86% and the Mangla Dam to 76% of their capacity.
