OIC News Agencies Discuss Media Transformation at 26th Executive Council Session
The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) convened its 26th Executive Council session online, chaired by Ali bin Abdullah Al-Zaid, Acting Chairman and President of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The session focused on media adaptation in the digital era, strengthening collaboration among member states, and advancing content innovation.
Key Discussions and Saudi Arabia’s Support
Ali bin Abdullah Al-Zaid emphasized the need for OIC media organizations to embrace digital transformation,** adopt new technologies, and enhance their global outreach. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s strong commitment to supporting UNA’s initiatives under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Saudi government has provided substantial financial and logistical support to UNA, enabling its expansion and technological advancement.
OIC and UNA’s Role in Global Media
OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha praised UNA’s efforts in promoting Islamic media initiatives and strengthening partnerships with international organizations. He highlighted UNA’s increasing role in countering misinformation and amplifying Islamic narratives worldwide.
Palestinian Minister Ahmed Assaf acknowledged UNA’s consistent support for Palestine, particularly in challenging media bias and disinformation. He commended UNA for ensuring global awareness of Palestinian struggles, including attacks on media outlets.
Financial Strengthening and Budget Approval
UNA Director-General Mohamed bin Abdulrab Al-Yami provided an update on the Union’s financial recovery, crediting contributions from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Pakistan, and other member states. Saudi Arabia’s $3 million contribution played a crucial role in settling UNA’s debts.
The session concluded with the approval of UNA’s 2025 budget, future media strategies, and resolutions aimed at strengthening Islamic media collaboration. These proposals will be presented to the General Assembly for final endorsement.
Diverse Participation in the Executive Council
The UNA Executive Council includes representatives from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Palestine, Malaysia, the UAE, Oman, Azerbaijan, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, and Gambia. The meeting underscored the importance of a unified Islamic media voice in addressing global challenges and shaping the future of digital journalism within the OIC framework.
