OIC Steering Committee on STI Agenda 2026 Wraps Up with Major Advancements at COMSTECH
The 6th Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Steering Committee on the implementation of the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Agenda 2026 concluded with notable progress at the COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad.
This landmark event brought together top officials from 15 key OIC institutions, representing countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Uganda, and Pakistan. The participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing scientific collaboration across the Islamic world.
Launch of a Groundbreaking OIC Innovation Portal
One of the key announcements from the meeting was the proposal for a centralized OIC Technology and Innovation Portal, to be developed and managed by COMSTECH. The portal will:
- Highlight cutting-edge research and technological innovations by OIC member states
- Offer data insights for informed decision-making
- Promote cross-border technological cooperation
“This initiative is a major step toward strengthening innovation-driven growth across the OIC,” said Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH. “It will create an inclusive digital space for showcasing ideas, exchanging knowledge, and building partnerships.”
Strategic Focus on Policy Alignment and Innovation Ecosystems
Ambassador Aftab Ahmed Khokhar, Assistant Secretary General of the OIC, commended the committee for its strategic direction and emphasized the need to engage the private sector and support national STI policies.
The Steering Committee urged member states to:
- Align STI initiatives with national development goals
- Build strong innovation ecosystems
- Secure funding for research and development
- Ensure policy coherence to drive impact
Boosting Intra-OIC Collaboration for Sustainable Growth
Participants underlined the importance of expanding intra-OIC cooperation to accelerate progress in science-led economic development. They agreed that shared platforms and coordinated efforts can significantly increase research output and technological advancement in the region.
The gathering also served as a platform for networking and exchanging ideas on future collaborations.
Appreciation and Closing Ceremony
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and presentation of souvenirs to all participants in recognition of their contribution. Delegates praised COMSTECH for its hospitality and effective coordination of the meeting.
