Oman’s Sultan to Visit Moscow for High-Level Talks with President Putin Following Iran-U.S. Nuclear Negotiations
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said will arrive in Moscow on Monday for an official visit, coinciding with renewed nuclear discussions between Iran and the United States facilitated by Oman.
The Kremlin announced that Sultan Haitham will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to discuss a range of bilateral and international issues. The visit comes as global attention intensifies on Iran’s nuclear program, following the launch of a new round of U.S.-Iran talks in Rome.
These discussions, mediated by Muscat, mark a critical attempt to defuse longstanding tensions over Tehran’s atomic ambitions. The negotiations take place under a climate of caution, with former U.S. President Donald Trump voicing aggressive rhetoric, warning that military options remain on the table if diplomacy falters.
Ahead of the Rome talks, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. Following their meeting, Lavrov affirmed Russia’s readiness to support peaceful dialogue, stating, “We are prepared to assist and mediate in any manner that promotes a constructive resolution between Iran and the United States.”
Russia, a key member of the United Nations Security Council and a former signatory of the 2015 nuclear agreement abandoned by Trump in 2018, has consistently played a role in Iran’s diplomatic engagements.
Sultan Haitham’s visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between Moscow and Muscat, particularly in areas of trade, regional diplomacy, and global security. Both the Kremlin and Oman’s state news agency confirmed the agenda will prioritize advancing mutual economic interests and enhancing political collaboration.
