Orders for the Detention of (BNP) leader Akhtar Mengal Issued by Baluchistan Government

Report by Muhammad Furqan

The Baluchistan National Party (BNP) leader, Akhtar Mengal, has been issued detention orders by the provincial government. According to the Baluchistan government spokesperson, Mengal was informed this morning about the detention under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act. However, Mengal refused to comply with the orders and give himself up.

The spokesperson added that local authorities and police notified Mengal that if he attempted to move towards Quetta, he would be arrested, as law enforcement agencies were stationed to ensure his detention.

The BNP’s ongoing sit-in at the Mastung Luk Pass entered its 10th day. The party had called for the closure of national highways, which has caused difficulties for citizens. The provincial administration has directed all district authorities to ensure that national highways remain open and not blocked.

Yesterday, Akhtar Mengal announced that Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, had contacted him and assured that their demands would be presented to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Mengal further stated that if their demands were not met, they would stage a peaceful march towards Quetta today.

It is important to note that following the restoration of mobile phone and internet services in Quetta, they were once again suspended.
