Over 40 Killed in Deadly Attack on Sudan Hospital, WHO Confirms

KHARTOUM — More than 40 people, including children and medical personnel, were killed in a devastating attack on Al Mujlad Hospital in Sudan’s West Kordofan region over the weekend, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on Tuesday.

The strike occurred on Saturday near the active front lines of the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to Reuters. The area remains one of the most contested regions in the country’s violent power struggle.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the attack, calling for an immediate end to all assaults on healthcare infrastructure. These acts are a violation of international humanitarian law,” he stated on social media.

Dr. Tedros did not specify which party was responsible for the assault, as investigations into the incident continue. The Al Mujlad Hospital was reportedly treating both civilians and displaced persons amid intensified fighting in the region.

Since the eruption of violence in Sudan in April 2023, thousands of civilians have been killed, and millions displaced. Attacks on hospitals, clinics, and humanitarian workers have increased, drawing global condemnation and urgent calls for ceasefire.

The United Nations and humanitarian agencies have repeatedly urged all factions in Sudan to respect international law, protect civilians, and ensure safe access to medical care in conflict zones.
