Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, expressed optimism about the vast potential for investment, trade, IT, and tourism cooperation between Pakistan and Bahrain. His remarks came during a meeting with a high-level Bahraini parliamentary delegation led by President of the Council of Representatives, Ahmed Bin Salman Al Musallam at the Parliament House in Islamabad.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Bahrain, rooted in shared religious, cultural, and historical values. He stressed that these commonalities have led to mutual respect, creating a solid foundation for expanding collaboration in various sectors.

“Pakistanis are held in high regard in Bahrain, with several roads named after them, a testament to their contributions to Bahraini society,” said Ayaz Sadiq, also extending a heartfelt invitation to President Ahmed Bin Salman Al Musallam to visit Pakistan in the coming year.

The Speaker underscored the need for proactive measures to enhance cooperation in the investment, trade, business, tourism, and IT sectors. He emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation as a critical tool in fostering stronger bilateral ties.

With Bahrain and Saudi Arabia leading advancements in IT and technology, Ayaz Sadiq urged Pakistan to follow suit and adopt similar innovations to modernize its infrastructure. He emphasized that bilateral agreements must result in tangible outcomes, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.

The Speaker also touched on Pakistan’s diverse potential, highlighting the strength of its agricultural sector in Punjab, the breathtaking landscapes of Sindh’s deserts, and Baluchistan’s natural resources. He further highlighted the strategic significance of Gwadar’s deep-sea port, which could become a hub for regional trade.

Sadiq also gave an overview of key parliamentary initiatives in Pakistan, including the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Forum, and the Young Parliamentary Forum. He took pride in Pakistan’s gender inclusivity, noting that 60 seats for women have been reserved in Pakistan’s Parliament, reflecting the country’s commitment to empowering women.

President Ahmed Bin Salman Al Musallam expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted the strong bond between Bahrain and Pakistan, emphasizing their shared commitment to fostering future generations of cooperation. He also showed support for digitizing Pakistan’s parliamentary system and expressed the desire to double trade between the two nations, which currently stands at $800 million.

Deputy Speaker Ahmed Abdulwahed Qarata of the Bahraini Council of Representatives reinforced the importance of tourism, energy, and trade for future collaboration and praised Pakistan’s role in the Muslim world.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, especially in IT, trade, tourism, and economic growth. Both Pakistan and Bahrain are focused on improving their parliamentary systems and creating new partnerships in the sectors crucial for mutual prosperity.
