Pakistan-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group reaffirming their dedication to enhancing ties.
The Pakistan-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group convened a high-level meeting at Parliament House, reaffirming their dedication to enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties.
The meeting was chaired by Bilal Azhar Kayani, Minister of State for Railways and Convener of the Friendship Group.
Upon their arrival, the UK delegates received a warm welcome from Pakistani lawmakers, setting a tone of mutual respect and collaboration.
In his opening remarks, Minister Kayani emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties between the two countries. “This platform plays a vital role in fostering dialogue, trade partnerships, and people-to-people connectivity,” he said.
Lord Wajid Khan acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to promote bilateral understanding and called for increased engagement between the UK and Pakistan on critical issues ranging from economic cooperation to countering global challenges like Islamophobia, climate change, and regional peacebuilding.
The session included comprehensive discussions on trade and investment, diaspora contributions, and global issues such as the situations in Kashmir and Palestine. Participants stressed the need for inclusive dialogue and mutual support in international forums.
Among the Pakistani parliamentarians present were Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Latif Khosa, Tahira Aurangzeb, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, and Romina Khurshid Alam. Sharmila Faruqi, Dr. Shazia Soomro, and Daniyal Chaudhry joined virtually. Senior officials from the British High Commission and National Assembly Secretariat also attended.
The meeting concluded with the exchange of commemorative shields, symbolizing a renewed commitment to long-standing friendship and diplomatic engagement between the United Kingdom and Pakistan.
