Islamabad —Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan met with Algerian Ambassador Dr. Brahim Romani in Islamabad. The two leaders explored wide-ranging opportunities in energy cooperation, investment, and trade diversification, aiming to position Pakistan as a key player in African and Mediterranean markets.
Ambassador Romani highlighted Algeria’s growing status as Africa’s third-largest economy and one of Europe’s top natural gas exporters. The ambassador underscored Algeria’s critical role in regional energy security, with undersea pipelines supplying gas to Italy, Spain, and Tunisia, and an ambitious $40 billion investment plan underway in the energy sector.
Romani invited Pakistan to become a stakeholder in Algeria’s vast oil, gas, hydrogen, and renewable energy reserves, noting the country’s modern infrastructure and strategic location as an ideal gateway to both African and European markets.
Pakistan was also officially invited to participate in Algeria’s first-ever INTRA-AFRICA Trade Fair, scheduled for September 4–10, 2025, in Algiers. With over 2,000 exhibitors from 140 nations, the event presents a major opportunity for Pakistani businesses in agriculture, energy, IT, health, and innovation to expand their global footprint.
Commerce Minister Jam Kamal reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to its “Look Africa” policy, stressing the urgency of economic diplomacy and private sector outreach. He cited the role of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in supporting export-led growth, especially toward Africa and Arab markets.
“Our trade with Algeria, though modest at $43.9 million, is gaining momentum,” said the minister. “The rise in Pakistani business participation at Algerian expos — from 12 companies in 2022 to over 170 in 2024 — is a clear sign of growing trust and interest.”
Both sides agreed to expedite the first meeting of the Joint Business Council (JBC), established in 2022 between Pakistan’s FPCCI and the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The JBC is expected to serve as a formal platform for business-to-business (B2B) collaboration and investment matchmaking.
Ambassador Romani also revealed that the Algerian Embassy has streamlined its visa process for Pakistani entrepreneurs, now offering multiple-entry business visas without requiring central approval — a step aimed at removing bureaucratic hurdles and boosting cross-border partnerships.
